Yorglass Delivers Products to Nearly Sixty Countries
Among the top 1000 companies announced by Turkish Exporters' Assembly for 2020, Yorglass is ranked among Turkey's Top 500 Industrial Enterprises. Semavi Yorgancılar, CEO of Yorglass, has indicated that the company's market share has reached 50 percent in Turkey, and 25 percent in Europe. Stating that they deliver their products to approximately 60 countries in six continents, Semavi Yorgancılar has answered our questions.
Home Appliances Turkey Suppliers Magazine: You are breaking an export record, and you are shown as one of the export record holders of the year by the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM). What would you say for this?
Semavi Yorgancılar: As Yorglass, we continue our activities with the vision of being the industrial glass processing leader growing with a passion for a better world. Because of this view, we did not slow down during the pandemic period. We successfully continue our work. While being positioned on the list of Turkey's Top 500 Industrial Enterprises, we were included in the top 500 of the Turkish Exporters' Assembly.
We lead our industry. In accordance with our mission and the culture that we have embedded in the foundations of our company, we have increased our activities and grown even more by making very strong breakthroughs. We doubled the number of our employees. We made new investments. Our Çerkezköy plant, that was launched for our international business partners, performs successfully in its sector. We continue our production successfully in our six plants in Bolu, Çerkezköy, Eskişehir, İzmir and two in Manisa.
Our market share in our country has reached 50 percent and our market share in Europe has reached 25 percent. We deliver our products to nearly 60 countries on six continents. We carry out our activities as a reliable and global supplier and we become a strong force next to our business partners. The most important indicator of this is that we were selected as the Global Supplier of the Year by our valuable business partner Bosch Group. The award ceremony was held in our Çerkezköy plant.
Home Appliances Turkey Suppliers Magazine: Being selected as the global supplier of the year is a very important achievement. Could you tell us the details of this valuable award?
Semavi Yorgancılar: Within the scope of Bosch Global Supplier Awards with 46 suppliers selected from 23 thousand companies from 16 countries, which were granted for the 17th time this year, awards were given in the categories of Purchasing of Indirect Materials, Raw Materials and Components, Purchasing of Direct Materials - Mobility Solutions, Industrial Technology and Consumer Goods, and Sustainability. The newly introduced “Sustainability” category focused on activities to mitigate global warming. We received the award in the category of Purchasing of direct materials – Consumer Goods. The award that Europe's largest home appliance manufacturer BSH nominated us, was presented at the ceremony held at our Çerkezköy plant, which started operating last year. This award showed us once again that we are on the right path. Based on that, we are very grateful to Bosch for the award and the associated recognition. This recognition underscores our deep commitment to our customer's success.
Home Appliances Turkey Suppliers Magazine: So, what are your future goals? How would you relate it to the future of the industry?
Semavi Yorgancılar: There is a high demand for the global flat glass market, which offers extraordinary opportunities for our industry with its ever-expanding usage areas. We think that the trend towards value-added glass will increase in the next five years. Current industry analysis reports support this view. Due to the pandemic affecting the world, more time is now spent at home. Consumers' shopping preferences are changing predictably. This change also affects our industry positively. Industrial glass are used in all areas of houses, offices, and workplaces. We have a big task in the face of these developments as the sector leader. We will continue to fulfill our duties in the future as well. By reaching our export targets in a short time, we aim to increase our total exports by 60 percent and our total turnover by approximately 50 percent by the end of 2021 compared to the previous year. In this direction, while placing our customers and business partners at the center of our business, we closely follow the developments in our sector and deliver our innovative products to the market. Our direction will be in the focus of sustainability, just like in the past. We prioritize creating a beautiful future above everything else.
Home Appliances Turkey Suppliers Magazine: You said that you prioritize creating a beautiful future above all else. What are the details of your sustainability efforts?
Semavi Yorgancılar: We are the only company in our sector that is a member of the UN Global Compact. We explain this important value not only to our employees but also to our business partners, and we shape the future as we grow. As Yorglass, we build all our activities within the framework of sustainability because we know that a good and beautiful future will develop only within the scope of sustainability. In this direction, we prefer environmentally friendly practices from our production to our business processes. We have received ISO 27001 and 9001 certificates to ensure the sustainability of our environmental policies. The processes of ISO 50001, 14001, 45001 and 14064 certificates are also proceeding.
Home Appliances Turkey Suppliers Magazine: What are your practices on energy efficiency?
Semavi Yorgancılar: We pay great attention to important issues such as energy efficiency projects, carbon-water-footprint measurements, and circular economy practices. In this direction, we have completed our feasibility studies on generating energy from the roofs of our facilities. By 2022, we will expand our environmentally friendly energy production efforts. We take part in the Accelerating Climate Goals working group within the scope of the UN Global Compact to learn the best practices in the world and apply them in our own processes. Our aim is to achieve the goal of zeroing carbon emissions together with our business partners. To reflect this awareness to our employees, we launched an Idea Campaign in all our businesses simultaneously. We asked our employees to look at the processes they are responsible for with an environmental and energy perspective. We saved resources by using recycled metal crates instead of cardboard crates in our businesses. We reduced the use of plastic with our project called Cut Channel Glass, which we also implemented in our Eskişehir plant. We plan to increase the effect by extending our product.
We take as a guide the idea that ensuring sustainability occurs from the inside out. Therefore, we use a gamification-based application called MING. We prefer MING, the new generation social platform, to measure the energy efficiency in our businesses and to ensure that our employees adopt it more. Thus, our efforts to use our resources more efficiently and to reduce carbon emissions are accelerating. This application also makes our daily work more entertaining. It strengthens employee manager communication and ensures that everyone is aware of the work done within the company.

Founded in 1974, Yorglass leads the industry with its experience in industrial glass processing and flat glass trade. Continuing its activities in line with its vision of becoming a global brand, Yorglass serves national and international markets with its rich product portfolio. Yorglass, which established the first insulating glass plant in the Aegean Region in 1988, started its production facility in the home appliances industry in Bolu in 1989. Yorglass took a break from home appliances production and continued its journey by increasing customer satisfaction with the commissioning of the Bolu plant in 2012, Eskişehir in 2015 and Manisa plants in 2019.
